The annual Academic Awards Ceremony will be held once again at Wiregrass Ranch High School (WRHS) on Thursday, April 27, 2017 in the gym. This ceremony will celebrate the accomplishments of students throughout the year.
The students that will be honored have either earned a 3.5 unweighted Grade Point Average for each of the three quarters this year, department awards, the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award, and/or SAC athletic awards.
For those who are unaware, the Anne Frank Humanitarian Award is an honorable award presented to students who have completed a high number of service hours, as well as diversity in their service.
It takes a lot of work and dedication to be able to receive any of the awards mentioned, and the selected group of students will all now be recognized for their efforts.
The 2017 year is the 11th year of this annual award ceremony, since WRHS has been holding this event since the school’s opening, and it is planned to continue every year.
Some of the students who will be receiving awards at the ceremony commented on the event.
“I’m excited for the ceremony,” freshman Sarah Scott said. “I put in a pretty good bit of work so it’s nice to be recognized for it.”
Freshmen Kathryn Sherman is also excited for the ceremony.
“I worked so hard to keep my grades up this year,” Sherman commented. “I didn’t work specifically for this ceremony, but it is relieving to get an award for all my spent time and effort.”
Though there were over 500 students invited to the event, administrators like Jennifer Batchelor are nonetheless proud of each student for their accomplishments.
“We have watched students succeed from day one, as well as those who have struggled, but overcome obstacles to be successful,” Batchelor said. “Every student has potential, and it is nice to see them realize it & work to their ability.”
