WRHS holds auditions for the musical “Hairspray”
On Friday, December 20 WRHS will be holding auditions for the school’s production of the hit Broadway musical, “Hairspray”.
“Auditions are open to the whole school,” said Misty Hornsby, the WRHS theatre teacher, “Some roles were filled at our first round of auditions.”
The auditions may go on for a few hours depending on the turnout.
“Auditions could take up to 3-4 hours depending on how many students show up,” said Hornsby.
Students who audition are expected to complete quite a few tasks.
Hornsby said, “Students must prepare a musical song to sing or a song in the style of the show. No vocals allowed in music.” Hornsby went on to say “Students will be shown choreography and perform the choreography. Students may also be asked to read lines from the script.”
After students audition and find out if they got a role in the musical, they will have about four months to practice, rehearse, and make sure the musical is perfect
“Hairspray performance dates are April 14th & 15th at the Wesley Chapel Performing Arts Center.” said Hornsby.
The students have a wide variety of roles to audition for. Although, some roles have already been filled out by students in the first round of auditions for the musical.
Freshman JD McDonald, for example, was cast as the role of Edna Turnblad in the first round of auditions.
