Flag Football Tournament gives students a chance to win scholarship money
The S.A.D.D club plans to hosts their first flag football tournament at the end of February, and one student has a chance to earn a scholarship.
S.A.D.D club is a club that helps students become aware of bullying, drugs, and destructive behavior, etc. in the environment. They try their best to inform their peers of how to avoid and handle situations they may encounter.
Vice president of S.A.D.D. club, Tara Hajari, explained why this event is happening.
“We [S.A.D.D club] thought the flag football tournament would be the perfect idea for an event because it’s a fun opportunity that any grade can be part of, but it also gives back to a WRHS student [in the form of a scholarship],” Hajari explained.
This tournament will take place the week of February 25th on the practice football field. Students who are interested in this event are encouraged to form a team of at least 8 players. The cost to play is $8 per player; however, all the money raised will go to one lucky winner at the end of the tournament. Only Juniors and Seniors with a 3.0 GPA in good standing are eligible to receive the scholarship, but all grade levels can play in the tournament. You do not need to win the tournament to win the scholarship, all you have to do is enter.
For those interested in forming a team, a team captain must be established. After that, the team captain must pick up a team packet from room 4-139 and return it once completed.
Referees will be on the field as well as the sidelines. S.A.D.D club wants to make this experience as official as possible; the club is a strong believer in sportsmanship and fairness. Students are allowed to participate as a referee as long as all flag football rules are well known and are still eligible to win the scholarship.
“As of now, there are 10 teams that have collected the registration packets, but there is still more time to sign up,” sponsor Greg Finkel stated.
Packets are due by February 20th. For any questions or more information see Mr. Finkel, the S.A.D.D club sponsor, in room 4-139.
