Wiregrass clinches playoff spot in Gaither victory

The Wiregrass Ranch football team comes away with their sixth straight win against the Gaither Cowboys in a game that clinched them a spot in the district championship game and their first playoff berth since 2010.

Quarterback Chris Faddoul put the Bulls on the board first with a seven yard run touchdown run. The Bulls forced the Cowboys to a three and out and got the ball back. Wiregrass lead Gaither 7-0 going into the 2nd quarter.

Junior Running Back Chase Oliver scored early touchdown in the second quarter that extended the Wiregrass to 13-0. Not too long after, Faddoul runs it in to bump Wiregrass’ lead by seven. Dada McGee also scores with a 45 yard touchdown run before the time in the half expired Wiregrass leads 25-0 at the end of the half.

The Gaither Cowboys returned the ball at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to their 17 yard line. The drive was unsuccessful, however, as they recovered their own fumble on 3rd down and were forced to punt from their own endzone. The quarter ended with Wiregrass’ dominance resulting 31-7 lead going into the final quarter of the game after a Faddoul score and a missed PAT.

The Bulls were able to put the game away with a late touchdown, converting on a Cowboys three-and-out and a turnover. With Gaither’s final points of the game coming from a last second fifty-three yard scamper by running back T.J Williams. The final score projected a resounding an decisive victory by the Bulls, 37-14.

With that victory, Wiregrass will play Plant High School on October 28th for the district championship. Plant is so far 8-0 and ranked 14th in the state of Florida.
