Super Bowl 54 takes place on February 2nd in Miami between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

Kansas City comes into the game as 1.5 point favorites and on an 8-game win streak. They are led by 3rd-year Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who is arguably the best quarterback in the NFL, and newly acquired Safety, Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu has completely revamped this Chiefs’ defense from last season, tallying 75 tackles and four interceptions during the regular season.

Tight End, Travis Kelce, was a force against Houston earlier in the playoffs, catching 10 passes for 134 yards and three TDs, and has been outstanding all season long.

This Chiefs team runs a very pass-heavy offense that relies greatly on the play-making ability of Mahomes. Head coach Andy Reid is one of the league’s top play-callers and is looking for his first Super Bowl ring.

The 49ers come into the game 13-3, with one of the best defenses in the league. Jimmy Garoppolo has bounced back strong from a torn ACL last season, throwing for nearly 4000 yards this season and 27 touchdowns. Garoppolo’s favorite target, George Kittle, racked up 1,053 receiving yards and five TDs this season.

This will be the 49ers 7th Super Bowl appearance.

With all that being said, this is a running football team. They have a 3-headed monster in the backfield between Raheem Mostert, Matt Breida, and Tevin Coleman. There is no one-lead man, as they ride the hot hand every game. Last week, Mostert became the first player in NFL history to rush for 200+ yards and four TDs in a playoff game.

Nick Bosa, the Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite, leads the 49ers stingy defensive line, with three sacks in the past two weeks. Their linebacker core is extremely young and athletic, consisting of 25 year-old Kwon Alexander and 23 year-old Fred Warner.

The best story on this team though, belongs to Richard Sherman who was cut by the Seattle Seahawks two years ago after suffering a torn achilles, and then bouncing back to lead the 49ers secondary.

I believe this is going to be a great game, as these teams match up remarkably well and both are stacked with talent across the board. Obviously, the 49ers are going to have to slow down Mahomes, as I expect them to bring a ton of pressure early, making Bosa’s presence felt. The 49ers linebackers are extremely physical and fast, making them perfect to contain Travis Kelce and shut down Damien Williams and the Chiefs’ sub par run game.

Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, and Mecole Hardman are three of the fastest receivers in the league, and I think they will be able to get behind the 49ers secondary, multiple times in this game. That will keep the Chiefs alive and close enough for Mahomes to work his magic in the 4th quarter.

On the other side of the ball, the Chiefs will be expecting a heavy dose of running, potentially allowing for Jimmy G to have a big game. The receiving core of the 49ers is very underrated, led by Emmanuel Sanders and Deebo Samuel, who both have breakaway speed that can be unleashed at any moment. Expect George Kittle to have a big game, as Garoppolo is going to be relying on his safety blanket a lot, since he does not have much big-game experience.

The Chiefs held Derrick Henry to only 69 yards last week, which I believe they will continue into the Super Bowl, containing the 3-headed monster.

This is truly either team’s game. I believe it will be a very close game and will come down to the last few minutes. My prediction is: 49ers 36 Chiefs 30.
