Run for your life at Tampa’s 5-K Zombie Rn

The 5K Zombie Run is a scary, yet exciting race where fleeing zombies is the goal. The 5K Zombie Run will be held in Odessa, at the Northwest Equestrian Park, on November 19th. The event will begin at 9:00 am.

Tickets for the race are currently on sale for $40 from now until October 15th. After October 15th, prices will increase to $60, so it is best to purchase them in advance. WRHS students can save $10 by using the coupon code BULLS at checkout.

Participants will have two options: be a zombie or be a runner. The race will be quite scary for the runners, as they will be chased through spooky trails and wooden paths by the zombies.

The runners will be given three flags to attach to a belt. These flags will represent their number of lives- and runners do not want to lose them! As the zombies chase the runners, their goal is to steal as many flags as they can. The runners on the other hand, want to keep as many of their flags as they can.

Parker Quarterman, a sophomore at Wiregrass Ranch High School (WRHS), shares his thoughts on the zombie run.

“This actually looks really cool. If I attend, I will probably be a runner,” says Quarterman.

There will be safe zones throughout the course. They are located at each mile marker, where participants can take a quick break and get a cup of water in addition to another life flag.

According to the staff, rewards will be given to each attendee.

“All participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, temporary tattoo, and admission to the post-race apocalypse party complete with music, food, great vendors and a fun family atmosphere,” states the website.

The 5K Zombie Race is rather unique, compared to other races. The 5K Zombie Race is much more interactive, and more like a game than many of the other marathon races.

According to WRHS senior, Sabrina Dinan, the Zombie 5-K is going to be a popular event this year.

“This is actually really interesting and I have never seen anything like it. I think when the word gets around, a lot of people are going to want to participate in the race,” says Dinan. “Typically, the big races are the ones where they splatter paint or colored powder all over you, so this is something different that a lot of people will probably be interested in.”

If you love active, outdoor entertainment, you definitely do not want to miss out on this race!
