The case of Gabby Petito has gained notoriety nationwide after the 22-year-old went missing on Sept 1 while traveling on a cross-country trip with her fiance, Brian Laundrie. The case has the nation acting as internet sleuths in an effort to find out what occurred that left Gabby Petito dead and her fiance missing.

Gabby was last seen in late Aug and reported missing on Sept 11. The cross-country trip that she and her fiance went on followed a trail of national parks in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming over the course of four months.

Everything appeared to be going well until Aug 12 when the couple was pulled over by police in Moab, Utah following a report of domestic violence from a passing driver. Gabby had told the police that she had hit Brian and that they had been having arguments due to the stress of the trip. Brian, who had visible scrapes, denied hitting Gabby, claiming he only pushed her when she grew violent in their previous dispute.

“It wasn’t like a push, and she jumped on me,” Brian told the reporting officers in the police bodycam footage when asked if he had hit Gabby back in defense. “She was already swinging and I was pushed.”

The reporting officers and dispatcher agreed not to cite Gabby and separated the couple for the night. On Aug 30, Gabby posted a YouTube video of the couple enjoying their trip, FaceTimed her mother and posted on her Instagram. Her instagram posts were the last sign of activity from Gabby Petito. On Sept 1, Brian returned to North Port, Fl alone.

On Sept 14, Brian Laundrie was reported missing by his parents to the police, as he left the house without his phone or wallet. Recent developments provide evidence of Brian preparing for his disappearance.

“Brian Laundrie reportedly purchased a burner phone on the day he disappeared from his parent’s home in Florida,” Steven Bertolino, the Laundrie’s family attorney told TMZ.

A few days later, a body was located in Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming. The County Coroner confirmed that the body found was Gabby Petito.

Currently, the FBI and several joint agencies are conducting a nationwide manhunt for Brian Laundrie as a person of interest in the homicide of Gabby Petito. For the past week, the police and FBI had been searching local Fort De Soto park for traces of Brian and have begun looking into the burner phone and the apparent camping trip the Laundrie family went on. With what is known about the case, the internet has developed many different theories about what happened to Gabby.

Regardless of theories, the public generally agree that the police should have acted sooner to prevent Brian’s disappearance. Many agree that Brian should have been kept under watch or arrested on probable cause of suspicion. The manhunt continues for Brian Laundrie, with everyone hoping he comes forth with what transpired the day Gabby Petito went missing.
