Netflix’s widely popular sci-fi series “Stranger Things” is confirmed to have a new season dropping sometime in 2022, leaving fans excited and worried for the fate of their beloved characters.

The show, created by the Duffer Brothers and set in 1980’s Indiana, has a creepy-yet-comforting atmosphere that makes it hard to stop watching. From the nostalgic soundtrack to the relatable characters to the monsters from another dimension; everything about the show has won viewers over.

Season 1 of “Stranger Things,” released on July 15, 2016, was met with praise by critics and viewers alike. A small-town cop, a close-knit group of friends, and young love; what more could one want in a nostalgic TV show? Many fans were hooked from the moment they hit play on the first episode five years ago, with over 20 million families watching the show within its first month on Netflix. 

The third season was released on July 4, 2019 and according to viewers, it was even better than the previous seasons. It had audiences laughing, crying, and utterly heartbroken after a dramatic and emotional ending that left fans questioning if their most cherished TV characters were even still alive.

Math teacher and soccer coach, Avery Walker, has been a fan of the show since the beginning.

“I think it is quite impressive that the show is continuously doing well, and each season is equally as exciting as the last, if not more exciting,” Walker stated.

Trailers and teasers for season 4 have been released on social media over the past few months, revealing the return of a favored character and a possible new storyline taking place in Soviet Russia. Junior Elijah Conley has some theories on what will be focused on in the upcoming season. 

“The teasers look very promising, hinting at exploring Eleven’s past and the other kids who got experimented on,” Conley explained.

Another junior, Alyssa Cortes, is just as excited for the upcoming season.

“Each season gets bigger and better, so I hope season four continues with this trend,” Cortes said.

With COVID-19 and a fire that occurred on set last month, filming has been set back. The writers and producers have done their best to keep eager fans updated on filming via social media, but some viewers are getting restless. 

With no official release date, fans are left theorizing what day they’ll be able to sit back and watch the new season of this mysterious show. After the second season was released just days before Halloween and the third being released on Independence Day, some viewers are wondering if the upcoming season will drop on a holiday as well. Cortes is guessing the new season will be released on Valentine’s Day, while Walker states that he heard it would drop in March 2022.

Conley, like many other fans, is anxiously awaiting the release. 

“It can be released on Saint Patrick’s Day for all I care, I’ll be staying up until 3 am binging it [with] family and friends,” Conley explained.
