Marc Lawrence’s Christmas comedy, Noelle, was released on Disney+ on November 12, 2019, and I could not wait to watch it. It stars one of my favorite actresses from the Pitch Perfect series, Anna Kendrick and after watching it, I can say I was not disappointed.

This film is about Noelle Kringle (Anna Kendrick), who is the daughter of Santa Claus and lives in the North Pole. Her brother, Nick Kringle (Bill Hader), is training to become the new Santa after his father. However, Nick has not been successful in learning his new role, and despite his sister’s help, he struggles to accept the big red suit. The story follows their adventure to Arizona where Noelle desperately attempts to show her brother the joys of being Santa Claus.

After watching the trailer, I was expecting a funny, feel-good holiday movie and it definitely lived up to my expectations. The North Pole setting was true to what we’ve come to expect, snow everywhere and Christmas decorations galore. Noelle ice skated everywhere instead of walking which was a fun addition to the traditional setting.

As for the acting, I thought Anna Kendrick successfully portrayed the role of a young woman filled with Christmas spirit who believes in carrying on traditions. While the acting was a bit over the top, it seemed necessary for her character. Bill Hader did a good job as well; both staying true to their character and delivering great performances.

I felt that towards the middle of the movie, the storyline started to get a little predictable. Anyone watching could see the direction the story line was going without too much thought.

That being said, the best addition to the movie was Snowcone. Snowcone is Noelles’ favorite baby reindeer that tends to appear out of no where. He is very clumsy and ridiculously adorable.

Overall, Noelle is a predictable, yet like-able Christmas comedy that many viewers crave this time of year. There are a few things that could’ve been portrayed better, however, I am sure that many Disney+ subscribers will enjoy this movie during the holidays.
