After a district championship last year and making it to the Regional Quarterfinal, Wiregrass girls basketball is looking forward to having another stellar season. The Bulls last season surprised many with their relentless drive and will to win, which ultimately led to the success of the team.

To build a championship winning team, the off-season is just as important as the regular season. The Bulls are no strangers to off-season work, as they were constantly in the gym as well as conditioning during the summer and fall, striving to get into the best shape possible.

Fourth year varsity player, and senior forward, Emma Gregory was a major catalyst for last season’s success. During the off-season, Gregory was one of the main players in the gym working on her game.

“Throughout the offseason, I worked on my shot, focusing on deeper shots on the outside,” Gregory explained. “As a team, I just want to have a winning season, and make it back to the regional playoffs again and enjoy my last season as a Bull.”

Solei Sowell, returning sophomore guard, is looking to have a break out season this year.

“My goal for this season is for everyone on the team to have a good season, and make it to playoffs again,” Sowell explained. “We need to work better as a team and communicate more not only while we’re on the court, but off of it too.”

Coach David Nieves, the head coach of the Girls varsity team, has worked all off season making sure his girls are ready for any test that comes their way this year.

“We have worked on our conditioning the most this off season and I want my players to not only be successful on the court, but off the court as students,” coach Nieves explained.

The Bulls play their first game of the season away against Seffner Christian on November 16th. If the Bulls can put it all together, they could be dangerous this season and be a real contender moving forward.
