Can Herro be the Hero?

This NBA post-season, Tyler Herro has appeared as a veteran masked in a rookie’s body, averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Along with a well seasoned Miami Heat team, Herro seems to be tormenting every team they meet this post-season. Without him, the Heat would not have their stellar 12-3 post-season record.

In the regular season, Herro averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists; while these may not be superstar stats, they are fairly strong for a 20-year-old rookie.

In the Game 4 victory against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, the rookie had a superb 37 point outing. In this performance, Herro became the second youngest player, only behind Derrick Rose, to score 35 points in a playoff game. Even through all the buzz and excitement, being modest seems a priority for Herro.

“Without my teammates, I don’t think any of this would be possible, especially as a rookie,” Herro said to Sports Illustrated.

Head Coach Erik Spoelstra and teammates think very highly of the rookie veteran.

“At this point, we’re past that,” Spoelstra explained. “He’s not a rookie anymore, and we need his skillset.”

After their Game 5 loss, the Miami Heat capitalized during Game 6, closing out the Eastern Conference Finals. They have officially secured their spot in the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. Will the underdog Heat team be able to knock off a star-studded Laker’s team?

Key matchups in this performance will be between veterans Markieff Morris (Lakers) and Andre Igoudala (Heat), young gunners in Kyle Kuzma (Lakers) and Tyler Herro (Heat), all-stars Anthony Davis (Lakers) and Bam Adebayo (Heat), and the most highly anticipated will be the matchup between decorated superstar, LeBron James, and fellow superstar Jimmy Butler.

The Heat are going to have to play at a near perfect level in order to win the NBA Finals as the underdogs in the series.

NBA fans are expecting a show from Herro, but will he deliver? The Miami Heat are going to need his production throughout this series to keep up with the offensive prowess of this star-studded Lakers team.
