Semi Professional – Premier League week 2/11-2/13
The English Premier League has now gone through it’s 25th week and Chelsea is 8 points up on 2nd place Manchester City. Chelsea seems unstoppable.
The top 4 teams in the league get a spot in the UEFA Champions League which is the tournament that is known for having the best games in Europe and maybe the world. The 2015 final had about 70 million more views than Super Bowl 49.
In the top games this week, Arsenal won 2-0 over an 18th place Hull City in a much needed win by Arsenal who are under pressure recently due to a dip in form the past couple of weeks. The players and especially 20 year manager, Arsene Wenger, have been booed by the fans at the end of matches.
Manchester City have an exciting prospect in Gabriel Jesus, he’s scored 3 goals in his first 4 games. Unfortunately, he broke his ankle and is now ruled out for 4 months, missing the rest of the season. Man City won 2-0 over Bournemouth, putting some pressure on Chelsea.
Liverpool have now gotten their first win of 2016, due primarily to key player Sadio Mane returning. They had a tough opponent, Tottenham Hotspur, who are two places above them. Liverpool won 2-0 with Mane scoring both goals showing fans what they’ve been missing the past two weeks.
Swansea City won against the reigning champions Leicester City 2-0. Swansea who were just in 19th place two weeks ago have climbed up to 15th after new manager Paul Clement has reinstalled hope to the squad completely.
The remaining thirteen weeks are still filled with matches that can sway the standings of the league. The top four spots are up for grabs as 2nd to 6th place are only separated by only four points.
